Inequality

The UK's government started the process of consolidating anti-discriminatory legislation in June this year with the publication of the white paper Framework for a Fairer Future - the Equalities Bill CM7431. I wonder how many organisations are paying attention? Although the main focus appears to be towards the public sector ensuring that the different needs of minority communities, the disabled or observants of non-christian religions, for example, are catered for in service delivery, there are far wider implications. A passing comment in ACAS's guide to carrying out job evaluations should put HR people on alert. ACAS judges that claims for equal pay will no longer have to go through an organisation's own grievance procedure before going to a tribunal from round April next year (2009). That's just the beginning. Wake up you sleepy heads!
