What have I been reading recently? Well, it's something quite surprising. I found it on the remaindered shelf as it is now ten years since it was published. You'd think that would make it out of date since it's all about people who make their living via the 'net'. Not so, I tell you, not so. This title is a brilliant overview of the caste systems that pervade most employment silos. It is also a brilliant history of the personal stories associated with the development of the web connected universe, (significant names changed to protect the litigious). Cheapo copies still available I see!

Child labour restrictions

New guidance spells out the limits for putting a child to work. I find it odd that 15 year olds are still considered 'children' when my own parents were of the generation that started work at 14. Being the child of self employed parents is no protection though.

Casual employment

Years ago, when La Lobster was a mere yoof, she was known to do some seasonal work for an agricultural firm. The work, quite dirty, paid better than La Lobster's full time job at the time. It was nevertheless bad for La Lobster's health, clothing and self-esteem. She didn't think she'd see the day again but here it is. Supposedly professional people prostituting themselves in order to earn a buck. I told you there were too many under-employed people ages ago. Now here's what happens next.
